Chaos in the Calm: Roy’s Rainy Rush

One fine morning, Roy is about to leave his house. He had his breakfast and got ready for his office. He saw the clock in his room. It strikes 8:30 on the clock. He took his bag and wallet. He adjusted his tie and looked into the mirror. He pauses and smiles, then leaves the room. He grabbed his house keys. He locked the door and left his home. Little did he know, the calmness of his morning was about to be disrupted by the day’s chaos.

As Roy walks towards the local station, ready to catch his regular 8:48 train, he notices something odd. Raindrops start to fall, a rare occurrence for January. He quickens, hoping to make it to the station before the rain gets heavier. But the rain doesn’t let up, and the wind picks up, making the situation more challenging.

He turned up, pulled the stripe of his bag tight on his arm, and ran. He reached the house. His hair and half of his clothes got wet. He unlocked the door and went inside. He takes a towel hanging on the room door and dries his hair. He looks at the umbrella, but he cannot find it. He looked at the wardrobe, the storeroom next to his room, and the behind the drawing room rack. He looked at the watch, and it struck 8:43. He had only five minutes to catch his train. He looked outside. The rain is still resilient, very opposite to the season. He took a deep breath and tried remembering where he could have kept the umbrella. He recalled the memories of seeing his umbrella last in the box of his bed.

He took the umbrella locked at the door and was about to run towards the station when his cell phone rang. He gets his phone out of his pocket and sees his boss calling. He kept his phone back in his pocket when he heard a phone ring again. He is holding an umbrella and trying to connect the call to talk to his boss. There was a strong wind, and the umbrella got distorted by the wind. He holds strictly his umbrella and makes it back to normal again. He was walking fast when he realised he had the headphones in his next pocket. He held his phone to his shoulder and ear and said, hello boss ‘Can I call you in some time?’ he found his earphones in his pocket and when he heard the voice of his boss, ‘I have something important to tell you before you come to the office’. He tries to untangle the knot of his headphones when his phone drops from his ears and strikes the hard surface of the running road. He stopped and took his phone in his hand. The phone screen got cracked, and it disconnected the call. He kept his phone and headphones in his pocket and ran fast to reach the station when he arrived at the platform. The train left at that moment, and he missed catching it.

Meet Roy, an ordinary person like you and me, navigating the daily chaos. His story could easily be our own, a situation that could quickly unfold in anyone’s everyday life. The unexpected rain, forgotten belongings, and tangled headphone wires are all part of the human experience. They mirror our struggles and our handling of chaos and unforeseen situations.

Look at the rain, falling in unseasonal times. It’s a stark reminder that planning for life events or future circumstances can be uncertain and change at any moment. These unexpected occurrences are a testament to the unpredictability of life. They underscore the importance of living in the present, as you can never predict the near future. Today’s decisions will shape your future, but the outcome is always a mystery, a blank page waiting to be written.

Consider the forgotten umbrella in Roy’s case. He knew he had it, but it was hidden and obscured, akin to a person’s wisdom. They may have the knowledge and intelligence to handle a situation, but it remains ineffective if negative or misguided decisions cloud their wisdom. There’s a saying,’ Intellect is like a parachute; it only functions when it’s open’. Similarly, understanding and knowledge should guide your actions and decisions, empowering you to navigate unexpected twists and turns.

When you appreciate the rain as it is, keeping an umbrella in place as if to bring wisdom upon intellect and untangling headphone wire to their apparent thoughts to envision a happy life, that person becomes more exceptional.
